Executive Overview

ITFlow Enterprise is an end-to-end service desk and IT workflow orchestration platform developed for National Steel Fabrication (NSF – Orascom Construction). Centralizes IT support requests across manufacturing facilities and corporate headquarters, providing dual client interfaces (VB.NET MaterialSkin desktop application and responsive corporate web portal) connected to a centralized C# ASP.NET Web API and normalized SQL Server database.

The Challenge & Solution

The Core Problem: Prior to ITFlow, internal technical support requests, hardware replacements, and software provisioning across NSF's fabrication facilities were tracked via uncoordinated channels, leading to lost tickets, SLA violations, and zero audit visibility for management.

The Engineering Solution: Architected a multi-tier client-server solution with automated sequential ticket ID numbering, role-based status workflows (Pending -> In Progress -> Completed), on-behalf-of submission delegation with manager lookups, and real-time dashboard analytics for IT team leads.

System Architecture & Data Flow

01
Desktop Client (VB.NET)
Engineered with MaterialSkin for modern ergonomics in factory floor terminals and dispatch offices.
02
Web Client (HTML5/JS)
Responsive corporate portal accessible from any mobile or desktop browser within the corporate intranet.
03
Central REST API (C#)
ASP.NET Web API controllers managing authentication, ticket routing, status changes, and business rules.
04
Enterprise Relational DB
Normalized Microsoft SQL Server database schema ensuring ACID transactional compliance and audit logs.

Key Engineering Highlights

Dual Client Accessibility

Seamless interoperability between legacy factory Windows desktops and modern mobile web browsers.

Sequential Ticket Numbering

Thread-safe ticket generation guaranteeing distinct, human-readable identifiers.

Delegated Request Routing

Full support for submitting requests on behalf of team members with dynamic manager lookup.

Audit Logging & Timestamps

Every status transition records timestamp, operator identity, and optional resolution notes.

Technical Challenges & Resolutions

Engineering Challenge
Legacy Infrastructure Integration: Connecting modern web interfaces with legacy Windows workstations on isolated factory subnets.
Architectural Solution
Engineered clean RESTful Web API endpoints using RestSharp on the desktop client and fetch API on the web.
Engineering Challenge
Data Concurrency in Factory Shifts: Multiple dispatchers submitting requests simultaneously during shift turnovers.
Architectural Solution
Implemented pessimistic locking and transactional SQL stored procedures for ticket ID generation.
